Framed Picture with Monogram

Finished Picture
I have this opening between the living room and dining room and there just happens to be a big hook in the middle of it. The other day while looking at it, I thought, "I should hang something there." I'm sure that it is meant for a plant to be hung on, but with a cat that can be pretty playful, that didn't seem like a very good idea to me. I thought that a picture seemed safer and would be less like a toy for the cat.
So, I gathered up my supplies and set to work to put together this picture. I had a small problem though, the picture that I wanted to use was smaller than the size needed for the frame that I had. A clothe place-mat and the monogram letters from our wedding cake topper fixed that problem.
Since the picture would be seen from both sides, I wanted it to not just look like the back of a picture from the one side. To fix this, I painted a large "G" on the back of the frame. Luckily for me the backing to the frame is solid black. That made it look it even nicer.

Here is how I went about putting this all together. It is was quick, easy, and used stuff that I already had. The cost to me was my favorite price, FREE!

PAINT BRUSH
TAPE
PENCIL

How To
I began with painting the large "G" on the back of the picture. First, using Word, I found a font that matched the letters that I already had. While looking at that, I sketched the letter onto the middle of the back of the frame with a pencil. If you don't want to try to sketch the letter, you could print it out and trace it. Then, using silver craft paint, I painted the letter. The paint dries really quickly, so by the time that the rest of the stuff is done it will be dry.
Next, I laid the picture matting right side up and arranged the picture, letter, and placement how I wanted them look when it was finished. I had a helper named Kona too.
Next, I laid the picture matting in the frame. Then, I put little pieces of tape on the back of the picture and a small piece on the back of each letter. I placed the letters inside the matting where I wanted them to be. I then tape the picture to the two edges of the matting that it would rest on. This helps it to stay in place.

Lastly, I put the place-mat over all of this and pressed it down to ensure that it was sticking to the tape on the letters and picture. Then I putting the backing on the frame. Last thing to do before it is done is put ribbon through the two hooks in the back of the frame for hanging. I then tied the two ribbons in a knot at the top.
Hang the picture from the hook and it is all done. A simple solution for the hook with nothing hanging on it.
